Utilities / Aviation Specialists
Stay in the yellow!Overview of courses:
Utilities Aviation Specialists (UAS) offers a range of training courses that teach pilots and non-pilot crew members how to manage the hazards associated with the low-level wire and obstruction environment. Each course variant includes content tailored to each specialized industry. All courses include single and or dual pilot Crew Resource Management tailored to the low-level flight regime specified in the title.
Five different specialized versions of the Flying in the Wire Environment course are available. Each can be taught in person by a UAS instructor as a one-day or a more extensive two-day course.
In addition to our instructor-led courses, UAS offers an online course, suitable for all industry subsets.
Finally, by popular demand, we now offer a Lineman CRM course, our only Non-Aviation training course.

Flying in the Wire & Obstruction Environment (FIWOE) is our foundational and most comprehensive course designed for applicability to the widest possible range of pilot attendees. All other courses are specialized editions of FIWOE. All audiences who operate aircraft in or occasionally traverse through the low-level wire and obstruction environment will benefit from this course, including EMS pilots, tour pilots, aerial tree trimmers, and other pilots that operate at off-airport locations. This version is the longest running training course taught, in two parts, at the Verticon Expo (VAI, formerly HAI), every year since 1988. Click here for more information.

Online Flying in the Wire & Obstruction Environment (FIWOE) is a web-based version of our in-person FIWOE course for first-time or recurrent students. Click here for more information.
